EVALUATION
UNIT 1 Visual Recording in Art and Design
UNIT 5 Contextual Influences in Art and Design.
Student: Ana Vieira
Introductory Mural Project:  “Who Am I? Where I’m Going?”
In this project I was quite clear of what it was about and what I had to do since the beginning, but my difficulty was that I had no ideas for my design, but then we went to a trip to Liverpool Street and see all the work and all of that murals and then I started to have some ideas of what to do in my final design. All of the work and research about the artists that the teachers showed to us was very important for me because opened my mind to different styles and types of work.
My first thought when I receive the assignment brief was “I want a distinction”. I love painting and I came to London for a new experience, to learn new things and be the best that I can be so I became a great artist. Therefore I give my best in every task so I can get the best grade and see my effort recognized. So I worked hard and did extra hours in school and at home searching in web sites, books and magazines for other artist's work.
I quickly realised that in my final design I would put something relevant to my trip from Portugal to England because this was a very important moment in my life.
I made some sketches with notes about what I was thinking, and in the trip to Liverpool I took lots of photos to use as a source of new ideas. The only difficulties I had were with forming the texts and expressing my opinion the best way possible. I struggled with writing about the artists and their work, because of my English level but with effort and extra hours of work and also a little help from teachers and friends I think I did a good job.

The silhouettes of Kara Walker (page 2 and 3 of my sketchbook); the work of the street artist Malarki with all the bright, happy colours and characters (page 16 and 17 of my sketchbook); the collage that I did inspired by Richard Hamilton (page 6 and 7 of my sketchbook); and my name inspired by Si Scott (page 20 of my sketchbook), these were four important things that inspired me for my final design.

I was satisfied when I started to see my design in my board and started to add the colours, that was the moment that I saw that my design was what I wanted, but on the other hand I was a little afraid that would be to simple, but after talking to the teachers they told me it was fine and that was a relief for me.

I chose my final design from putting together some parts of my collage; the stencils based on Kara Walker’s silhouettes (page 8 of my sketchbook); symbols of my culture and things that I like, making a simple and happy background for my letter.
In the board I used acrylic paint making various layers to make the colours perfects. I made the red background first and then placed in the other elements. Later I added my name in Si Scott's style at the very bottom of the big letter and finally, I added the finishing touches with a marker making the outlines for certain parts of my work.
When I thought I had fished Marshal gave me a advice on how to improve my black cat silhouette in my design, so I sat for a minute drawing some lights in the silhouette and when I was satisfied I added this to my board.
In my other school I had experience with acrylics but never took on a project this size. I knew what to do and how to work with acrylic but making the red of background perfect was a little difficult, a had to make 3 layers of paint to get the final result and in my opinion I think that was a good result.
If a had extra time I would've made some changes in my design because a had an idea to put the Portuguese rooster next to Portugal and put a silhouette of Big Ben next to Great Britain and replace the silhouette of the cat with the rooster. But when I had this idea, there was not enough time to do it. But overall I liked the final result of my board.
To finish this project on time I had to put in a lot of extra hours. In school I painted the board and at home I made the research to fill up my sketchbook. I organized my time and work very well, a clear proof of this is that I was one of the first students to fished and didn’t have to rush any part of it.
I really enjoyed this assignment  and I learned to much from this, I learned to control my time, how use research sources, how to write and analyse my own work and the artist’s work,  how to construct my sketchbook and most importantly I learned about other artist's work.
I think my work is very well done and I deserve a good grade for this assignment.
