David Downton was born in Kent in 1959 has been an illustrator since 1984 with a Degree in Illustration at Wolverhampton University, but is known as fashion illustrator since 1996 when was invited by the Financial Times to illustrate a fashion show . Now he is a teacher in London College of Fashion. He already created illustrations for many companies as Topshop, Marks and Spencer, Channel and Dior.
His work is quick, he just takes more time in the face and others little details. In the woman with the red dress (below) he gives more importance to de silhouette of the dress, putting the black line detail in the bottom of the dress and then spends more time in the face of the model painting just a bit of her arms. He picks the most important parts and then starts to take elements out just spending more in the dresses, the accessories, the hair details, leaving the rest with just some of the outline.
